Support for Caregivers

A caregiver helps someone who is sick or has a disability whether it be a family member, friend, neighbor, etc.  You may be a caregiver if you regularly help someone with:
Grocery Shopping
Housework
Getting dressed
Taking and keeping track of medicine
Using medical equipment
Cooking
Transportation-car rides to appointments
Managing health services-communicating with doctors

About 25% of Americans are considered caregivers.  Most caregivers have other jobs but spend at least 20 hours per week caring for their loved ones.  The stress of caregiving can take a toll on YOUR health.  Caregivers are more at risk for sickness such as colds and flu and are also more likely to develop long-term health problems like arthritis, diabetes or depression.  If you detect signs of stress such as feeling angry or sad, trouble eating or sleeping or losing interest in things you used to enjoy please take action!
